Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools
The Journal of Pediatric Dentistry recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools can be useful to support authors in tasks such as writing, translation, data analysis, and grammar checking. However, their use should be transparent, ethical and responsible, especially in an academic and scientific environment.
2. Guidelines for Authors
Authors should consider the following guidelines:
(a) Mandatory Disclosure.
Any significant use of AI tools should be declared in the manuscript, preferably in the “Acknowledgements” or “Methods” section, as appropriate.
Example:
“ChatGPT (OpenAI) was used for support in grammar checking of the original manuscript.”
b) Prohibitions.
- AI must not be used as author or co-author of the article.
- AI is not allowed to be used to generate original scientific content, such as results, hypotheses, discussion, or conclusions.
- The use of AI to create or alter clinical or research data is not permitted.
c) Responsibility for content
Authors are fully responsible for verifying the accuracy, validity, and originality of any AI-generated or AI-assisted content. Any errors, biases, or misinformation resulting from its use are the sole responsibility of the authors.
d) Review and detection
The Editorial Board reserves the right to use AI-generated content detection tools to assess the integrity of the manuscript. Deliberate concealment of AI use will be considered unethical and may result in rejection or retraction of the article.
3. Accepted Purpose of AI Use
The use of AI in non-substantive auxiliary functions is permitted, such as:
- Proofreading of style and grammar
- Translation of texts
- Orthotypographic proofreading
- Preliminary analysis of statistical data (provided the data are interpreted by the authors).
4. Updating and revision
This policy may be updated as technologies and international guidelines on scientific publication and ethics evolve.
